Studio 68 offers a variety of classes for ages 2 through Adult. Whether you're just beginning or have taken dance lessons for years, we have the perfect class for you.

Our 2009-10 Class Schedule is now available!

Our Classes
Ballet emphasizes balance, control, and grace. It is the foundation for all forms of dance. Classes are offered to girls who are at least 2 years old and boys who are at least 4 years old.

Beginning/Intermediate Pointe class is available to students age 10 and older with at least 3 years of serious ballet training. Students must also be enrolled in a weekly ballet class. Enrollment is with the instructor's permission.

Tap focuses on combining rhythm and sound with music. This class is available to boys and girls who are 5 years old and up.

Jazz has several styles, from blues to pop to hip-hop. Our jazz students will be exposed to many different styles. It's offered to students 5 years old and up who have completed a full year of ballet training. Students must continue taking ballet.

Lyrical lessons will strengthen complete dance and performance skills. Available to our ballet company students age 9 and up, this class emphasizes musicality and expression through dance.

Musical Theatre is most often described as "Broadway-style." Students will incorporate elements of dance, acting, voice, and performance techniques. The class may take field trips to watch professional performances. Students age 9 and up who are currently taking ballet and one other subject may enroll.

Yoga and Pilates combine mind and body to create long, lean muscles, strengthen balance, and improve overall wellness. Dance training is not necessary; however both Yoga and Pilates can have a great impact on a dance ability.

Callanetics is a non-impact form of exercise that reshapes the body by isolating muscle groups and using tiny, precise movements. The class meets twice a week for one hour.

Adult classes in ballet, tap, and jazz are offered based on interest. With enough participation, we will have beginning as well as intermediate classes.

Private and semi-private lessons are available in any of the dance forms listed. These lessons offer individual, concentrated attention and are invaluable in improving technique or mastering complex movements. Students preparing for pageants and talent shows often choose private lessons.

Our Age Groups
2 and 3 year old students will develop coordination and classroom social skills. These classes include very basic ballet discipline, song & dance routines, and basic acrobatic skills. They meet once a week for 30 minutes.

4 year old classes more closely resemble the classical ballet structure. Children will also engage in fun activities designed to strengthen motor skills and hand/eye coordination. They meet once a week for 45 minutes.

Because of increased coordination, 5 year old children may choose to take ballet, tap, and/or jazz. At this level, we will use a variety of activities and games to emphasize proper technique and terminology. Each class will meet once a week for 45 minutes.

At 6 years old, students are better equipped to retain information and execute more complex steps and combinations. All classes will meet once a week for an hour.

Students 7 years old and up may choose to audition for one or more of our competitive groups. Studio 68 has four age groups for competitive dancers, and each age group has three companies: ballet, tap, and jazz. Of course, students may also choose not to join these groups and continue dancing just for fun.

9 year old students taking ballet and one other class may add Musical Theatre. Lyrical is available to ballet company members age 9 and up.

Adults can choose from ballet, tap, jazz, and a variety of exercise classes, such as Pilates, Yoga, and Callanetics. New exercise classes will be offered based on interest, so we welcome your suggestions. No previous dance experience is necessary; we ask only that you have fun and be willing to try new things. More advanced classes may be offered if there is enough interest.

(Note: We follow the age cut-off as set by the Wilkes County School System, which is currently October 15.)

Dress Code
To encourage professionalism, unity, and discipline in our students, Studio 68 follows a classical dress code. It is important that dancers present a neat and elegant appearance to minimize distractions in the classroom. As a convenience to you, all dancewear may be purchased through the studio.
